Itinerary

Day 1 - Lisbon

Lisbon, Portugal: Set on seven hills along the banks of the River Tagus, Lisbon has been Portugal's capital since the 13th century. It is renowned for its majestic architecture, quaint wooden trams, Moorish influences and a history spanning over twenty centuries. After devastating earthquakes in the 18th century, Lisbon was reconstructed by the Marques de Pombal, resulting in an elegant city with wide boulevards and a grand riverfront square, Praça do Comércio. The city today is a blend of modern and ancient, offering superb shopping alongside abundant culture and sightseeing opportunities in the Old Town, which sprawls across the city's terraced hillsides.

Day 2 - At Sea

Relax at Sea: Take this day to enjoy all the amenities and activities available on the ship as you sail towards the stunning Madeira archipelago. Whether you prefer lounging by the pool, indulging in a spa treatment, or participating in onboard activities, this day is yours to unwind and refresh.

Day 3 - Funchal

Funchal, Madeira, Portugal: Formed by a volcanic eruption, Madeira lies in the Gulf Stream, about 500 miles west of Casablanca. Discovered by the Portuguese explorer João Gonçalves Zarco in 1419, this magnificent island became part of Portugal’s vast empire and was named Madeira for the dense forest cloaking it. Initially wealthy from sugar plantations, Madeira later attracted British settlers when King Charles II granted the exclusive right to export its wine. Modern visitors are attracted to Madeira’s rich scenery, from mountain vineyard slopes to charming villages and abundant wildflowers. Its beauty has earned it names like ‘The Floating Garden of the Atlantic’ and ‘God’s Botanical Gardens’.

Day 4 - Santa Cruz de La Palma

Santa Cruz de La Palma, Spain: Known as 'La Isla Bonita' (the beautiful island), La Palma is characterised by verdant forests of pine, laurel and fern contrasting with the rugged majesty of the Taburiente crater. The island is dotted with charming villages, delightful to explore, and the capital, Santa Cruz, offers a wealth of experiences. Perched on the edge of the volcanic crater of La Caldereta, Santa Cruz elegantly blends modern architecture with colonial heritage. Visitors can explore the Natural History Museum, wander the historic quarters and Plaza de España or venture to the exquisite Church of Our Lady. Discover unique local crafts like silver jewellery and beautifully embroidered textiles, typical of the Canary Islands.

Day 5 - Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain: Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, is an enchanting destination with year-round sunshine and dominated by Mount Teide. The island features a central mountain range, surrounded by fertile northern valleys. The Cañadas del Teide, a vast natural crater approximately 14 miles wide, lies at the heart of this range. Santa Cruz, the island’s captivating capital, evolved from a humble fishing village into a bustling modern city, retaining 16th-century civic buildings and intricate private mansions. Close to the pier, the Santa Cruz Palmetum boasts a 29-acre Botanical Garden specialising in palms.

Day 6 - Dakhla

Dakhla, Western Sahara: Situated at the tip of a 40km narrow peninsula on the Atlantic coast, Dakhla is about 340 miles south of Laayoune. With ancient Berber roots, it was established by Spanish settlers in 1884, becoming a key fishing hub thanks to its cod stocks and rich marine wildlife, including seals and whales. Despite historical overfishing, Dakhla remains a significant fishing port and has evolved into a burgeoning centre for aquatic sports like kitesurfing and windsurfing, drawing a new wave of tourism.

Day 7 - Dakhla

Dakhla, Western Sahara: Spend a second day in Dakhla, deepening your exploration of this emerging tourist destination. Engage more with local aquatic sports, discover the vibrant local markets, or take time to relax on the breathtaking beaches.

Day 8 - Nouadhibou

Nouadhibou, Mauritania: As a significant port city, Nouadhibou is famed for its busy port and unique Atlantic coastline, offering breathtaking views and a sense of adventure. This city is also the gateway to discovering the local culture and traditions of Mauritania, allowing you a taste of its authentic charm and spirit.

Day 9 - Nouakchott

Nouakchott, Mauritania: The capital of Mauritania, Nouakchott, is a bustling city that serves as a cultural and economic hub. This dynamic city offers a mix of lively markets, traditional settings, and modern developments, providing insights into Mauritania's evolving society and rich heritage.

Day 10 - Dakar

Dakar, Senegal: Situated at the edge of the Cape Vert peninsula, Dakar is the westernmost city in Africa and the capital of Senegal. Although only established in 1857, it is one of West Africa’s most historically influential cities, characterised by its colonial past seen in the architecture of the downtown Plateau area reminiscent of southern France. Today, Dakar is a modern metropolis filled with vibrant activity. Visitors can savour locally brewed mint tea and engage in enthusiastic bartering within the colourful craft markets offering traditional embroidery, woodcarvings, metalwork and costume jewellery.
