Itinerary

Day 1 - Reykjavík

Reykjavík, Iceland: Sprawling Reykjavík, the nation's nerve centre and government seat, is home to half the island's population. Situated on a bay overlooked by the imposing Mt. Esja, Reykjavík presents a colourful sight with its concrete houses painted in vibrant hues. In contrast to the almost treeless countryside, the city is adorned with tall, native trees alongside imported ones. The city's name, derived from Icelandic words for smoke and bay, reflects the mystic steam from nearby hot springs. Today, Reykjavik's houses are heated naturally by near-boiling water, avoiding air pollution entirely. Varieties of City Cards provide practical options for unlimited bus rides and museum entries, making them cost-effective for exploring. A visit to one art museum permits free admission into two others, enhancing Reykjavik's cultural experience.

Day 3 - Skjoldungen

Skjoldungen, Greenland: Located on Greenland’s rugged east coast, Skjoldungen Fjord captivates with its enchanting scenery. Towering, snow-dusted mountains and sculpted icebergs in shades of white and blue create a breathtaking sight. The Thrym Glacier's retreating state is visible at the fjord's apex, highlighting the dramatic natural beauty. This U-shaped fjord offers an extraordinary setting and, as an added perk, it's not unusual to spot whales gliding through its icy waters.

Day 4 - Prince Christian Sound

Prince Christian Sound, Greenland: The transit through Prince Christian Sound is a highlight of this expedition. Connecting the Labrador Sea and the Irminger Sea, this majestic fjord, named after a Danish prince, is breathtaking. It spans 100 km and at times narrows to just 500 metres. With its panoramic snow-capped peaks and rock-strewn cliffs, this landscape feels timeless and untouched by the modern world. Enjoy the serene silence, with icebergs floating by, and remember to dress warmly for this spectacular sight.

Day 4 - Aappilattoq

Aappilattoq, Greenland: A small settlement near the western end of Prins Christian Sund, Aappilattoq means "sea anemone" in Greenlandic. This remote village, with only 130 residents, offers a glimpse into the life of the Greenlandic Inuit. A walk through the settlement unveils a school and a church, with the possibility of spotting a polar bear skin drying beside a home. Inhabitants have lived here since the 19th century, relying on hunting and fishing for sustenance.

Day 5 - Ivigtut

Ivigtut, Greenland: An abandoned mining town, Ivigtut has a rich history linked to its cryolite extraction industry.
