Itinerary

Day 1 - Fort-de-France

Fort-de-France, Martinique: The largest of the Windward Islands, Martinique, is situated 4,261 miles (6,817 km) from Paris, yet retains a distinctly French spirit and language, enhanced by a dash of West Indian spice. This is evident in the island's cuisine, a superb fusion of French and Creole influences. Martinique is adorned with lush tropical flowers, and its trees are burdened with ripe mangoes, papayas, lemons, limes, and bright-red West Indian cherries. Vast stretches of banana plantations, pineapple fields, and sugarcane reaching to the horizon invite exploration. The northern region's towering mountains and verdant rainforests attract hikers, while underwater sights allure snorkelers and scuba divers. Martinique also caters to those who prefer leisurely activities, from relaxing sunbathing to adventurous duty-free shopping. Notably, a popular excursion includes a visit to St-Pierre, which was buried under volcanic ash when Mont Pelée erupted in 1902.

Day 2 - Îles des Saintes

Îles des Saintes, Guadeloupe: This charming archipelago lies opposite the western part of Guadeloupe, discovered by Columbus in November 1493. Initially named Los Santos, French settlers renamed it Iles des Saintes in 1648. Despite recent tourist influx, Les Saintes remain among the Caribbean’s most untouched destinations. Of the eight islands, only Terre-de-Bas and Terre-de-Haut are inhabited. The latter boasts Fort Napoleon, offering spectacular views of small islets scattered in the bay. Terre-de-Haut's charming village of red-roofed houses along a bay invites exploration, with its boutiques and quaint cafés offering delightful culinary experiences. The island’s pristine views and tranquil beaches are easily explored on foot due to the limited number of vehicles.

Day 3 - Pigeon Island and Soufrière

Pigeon Island, Saint Lucia: Pigeon Island offers a glimpse into the rich history of Saint Lucia, with remnants of British forts and panoramic views of the Rodney Bay. A lively exploration site that combines relaxation with history.

Soufrière, Saint Lucia: The oldest town in St. Lucia, once the French colonial capital, founded in 1746, sits in close proximity to a namesake volcano. Soufrière’s market square is a bustling hub, especially when a cruise ship docks in the picturesque bay. French colonial influences mark its wooden buildings, adorned with verandahs and gingerbread trim. This town is a gateway to St. Lucia’s magnificent natural beauty, including the iconic Pitons, a drive-in volcano, botanical gardens, plantations, and majestic waterfalls.

Day 4 - Union Island

Union Island, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: Union Island is renowned for its multicultural heritage and lively atmosphere, along with inviting shores perfect for water sports, sailing, and exploration of its vibrant markets and bustling squares.

Day 5 - Mayreau Island

Mayreau Island, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: As the smallest inhabited island in The Grenadines, Mayreau spans just 1.5 square miles (3.9 square km). Visitors usually arrive by cruise ship, ferry, or yacht. With minimal infrastructure, this quaint island features a hilltop village offering breathtaking views over Mayreau, Canouan, the Tobago Cays, and Carriacou. Saline Bay offers wide sandy beaches and vendors selling local crafts. The surrounding waters are a haven for divers and snorkelers.

Day 7 - Bonaire

Bonaire, Bonaire: Known for its commitment to marine conservation, Bonaire offers pristine reefs and colourful marine life, providing one of the best diving and snorkelling experiences in the Caribbean.

Day 9 - Santa Marta

Santa Marta, Colombia: As one of the oldest surviving cities in South America, Santa Marta combines colonial architecture with modern energy, offering cultural richness and vibrant street life.

Day 10 - Cartagena

Cartagena, Colombia: Cartagena’s magnificent city walls and fortresses encase a beautifully restored historic centre. The Cuidad Amurallada is a lively coastal retreat boasting plazas, churches, museums, and shops. This UNESCO World Heritage Site balances its colonial charm with a modern bohemian buzz, especially in the revitalised Getsemaní neighbourhood. Founded in 1533, Cartagena was once a vital port and marked by its role in the transatlantic trade route.

Day 11 - San Blas Islands

San Blas Islands, Panama: The San Blas archipelago is a gem of the Caribbean, consisting of 365 islands, most uninhabited and home to the indigenous Kuna people who maintain their traditional lifestyle. The small inhabited islands are known for vibrant arts and crafts, especially the intricate molas - a celebrated form of clothing art that has become a popular souvenir.

Day 12 - Portobelo

Portobelo, Panama: Portobelo was once a significant port on Spain's trade route, offering historic fortresses and a serene backdrop ideal for cultural exploration and enjoying the local natural landscapes.

Day 13 - Colón

Colón, Panama: Founded in 1850 at the canal’s Atlantic gateway, Colón is a prominent port city rich in history. Named after Christopher Columbus, the city was a pivotal point during the construction of the Panama Railroad. Today, Colón is famous for its Zona Libre, a massive duty-free shopping area, while its architecture reflects both its French colonial past and American influence.
